Edgar Alwin Payne and His Works
Edgar Alwin Payne and His Works was originally published in 1926 as a limited edition run. It was published by Stendahl Art Galleries. Interestingly, Stendahl is mispelled in this edition as Stendal. I have kept the misspelling intact since it occurs in the original edition.
This small book includes two essays – one by Antony Anderson and the other by Fred S. Hogue. This book also included 51 paintings by Payne with a descriptive, interpretive paragraph or two about the painting written by Antony Anderson.
What follows is not an exact reproduction of this exceedingly rare book. Wherever possible, I have replaced the crude black-and-white half-tone painting reproductions from the original book with color images – if available. Some of the titles used for the paintings do not match up exactly with the titles used today for the paintings.
