Illustration 43.
French Boats
Three tuna boats are lying at anchor in the harbor of Concarneau. In the foreground is a sardine smack. They are raising her brown and patched sails making ready for the open sea. Nothing is here, save the weathered rigging, to suggest the drenching rain and stormy seas which are the lot of these Breton craft and their sturdy sailors; a canvas with a vestful and pleasing arrangement of joyous color.
