Boats of Douarnenez

The syllables of Douarnenez are as softly musical as the murmurous ripples of its peaceful, sunlit harbor. No Breton port offers more pictures to the trained eye and facile brush. Payne has brought us many from there, among them this colorful study of fishing smacks at anchor, delicious in its harmonies of greens, blues and rose-pinks, hues melting into one another and repeated softly in the rippled water on which the boats are riding so tranquilly.
