Boats at Chioggia
It must be that the sails of the Adriatic have given the name to that seductive color known as Italian pink, which is at once pink and rose and yellow, and yet not quite any of these. The larger bellying sail in this charming picture is of the true Italian pink, and holds tawny yellow patches like emblems. The smaller sail is a delicious yellow. An overarching blue sky vibrates with touches of the same elusive color—pink, rose, yellow, what you will—and the waters of the bay reflect it in an interplay of broken segments.
