Judging from the inside cover library card slip and date due, this book was quite popular among high school students back in the 1960’s.

I will warn you that some of the illustrations and drawing styles do unfortunately perpetuate cultural stereotypes. This book was first published in 1939. This particular copy was evidently printed about 1958.

The condition of the book is rough. There are tape marks from where a no longer existing dust jacket was held in place. Binding is loose. However, all pages are intact.

It’s a fun book to learn drawing comic style characters done in a way that only Andrew Loomis could have done.

The publisher description reads:

“Andrew Loomis (1892-1959) is revered amongst artists - including comics superstar Alex Ross - for his mastery of drawing. His first book, Fun With a Pencil, published in 1939 is a wonderfully crafted and engaging introduction to drawing, cartooning, and capturing the essence of a subject all while having fun. With delightful step-by-step instruction from Professor Blook, Loomis's charming alter ego on the page.”
