It’s Been Way Too Long Since We Last Talked…
One year went by, then two years, then three years. The last episode of The Artful Painter was released July 12, 2022. It featured Kami Mendlik who talked about her then new book Color Relativity. A move to Colorado, extensive renovation work on our new home, and family obligations put an end to the show. While working on our house, my wife lost her dear older sister to pancreatic cancer. Earlier this year I lost my oldest sister. Two weeks ago, I returned back to Colorado from my father’s funeral in Georgia.
Somehow amidst all those challenges my wife and I have continued to make progress building the Artful Painter studio. We’re so close now! Drywall has been finished and primed. Painting commences this week. Lighting, trim, concrete floor staining / epoxy coating are next. The installation of a quiet and efficient mini-split follow. We should be done by the end of August. My wife affectionately calls our little place in Montrose The Finally Done Ranch. Well, maybe we are not quite done yet, but the name gives us hope.
In September, I plan to resume producing and publishing The Artful Painter again – after a way too long hiatus. I’ve received so many emails, text messages, phone calls, and comments in social media over the last couple of years asking when the show would return. Many said it was one of their favorite art podcast and that they had listened to all the episodes multiple times while painting or traveling. Mark Sublette (host of the excellent Art Dealer Diaries podcast) recently messaged me and said, “Love what you do with the podcast!” Thanks, Mark! I love your podcast, too.
If the wait has been too long and you unsubscribe I’ll certainly understand. But, I hope you stick around. Obviously I rarely intrude upon your inbox - this being the first email I’ve sent out in nearly two years.
I’m excited to get started again. There are so many stories and experiences to share from fellow artists, curators and museums, art historians, art dealers and galleries, and collectors. It’s time to get those stories out.
Stay tuned… The Artful Painter is back.
