DCP 159: Kalle Ljung on Filming Antartica With a DJI Phantom Drone and a GoPro HERO3+
This movie was shot during our 20 days trip to Antarctica in December 2014 to January 2015. We started from Ushuaia in Argentina and went to Port Williams in Chile, rounded Cape Horn and crossed the Drake Passage towards the Melchior Islands in Antarctica. We spent 16 days in the Antarctic and got to experience the most amazing scenery and wildlife before we returned back to Ushuaia. Filmed with GoPro HERO3+ Black Edition and DJI Phantom 2, edited with Final Cut Pro X. Music from Music Bed with rights. A few weeks ago I published a post titled "Stunning Aerial View of Antartica - Using A GoPro HERO3+ and a DJI Phantom 2 Drone" featuring the beautiful work of Swedish amateur filmmaker Kalle Ljung. I'm happy to report that I was able to talk with Kalle about his amazing adventure. I recorded our conversation and I'm pleased to be able to present that conversation in this episode of the Digital Convergence Podcast.
Kalle explains how his trip of a life-time to Antartica came about, the challenges he faced filming the aerial footage with a DJI Phantom 2 and GoPro HERO3+, and the lessons learned in editing and grading the footage. At the time I recorded the podcast, Kalle's film Antartica had amassed over 730,000 views. The popularity of his short film is certainly well deserved.
Thank you for supporting and listening to the DCP!
